PSCTLT Receives Technology Challenge Grant
BOTHELL - Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology has
received a $1,167,700 "Technology Challenge Grant" from the
U.S. Department of Education. The congressionally authorized grant will
address training needs of teachers from the Edmonds, Mukilteo, Shoreline
and Seattle School Districts.
The Teaching, Mentoring and Technology (TMT)
project is designed to recruit teacher leaders from participating districts
who will engage in training activities to increase their knowledge of
the teaching of instructional technology and mentoring, as well as the
development of skills to create and maintain an online community of learners.
These teachers will then provide training to colleagues in their home
districts.
Additionally, via a unique partnership, Puget Sound Center will work with
TechCorps™ to provide additional technology support by utilizing
corporate and community-based volunteers. TechCorps™ volunteers will
be partners for the teacher leaders, providing one-on-one technology training
and support, as well as working on other identified district projects.
Formal TMT program objectives are to:
- Establish, coordinate and provide training and mentoring opportunities
for K-12 teachers in the integration and application of technology in teaching
and learning.
- Provide resources for technology training and support staff to enable
them to provided effective follow-up and mentoring to teachers participating
in training to further embed technology into the teaching and learning
process.
- Connect teachers to additional training and technical support resources by matching and managing corporate volunteers.
Puget Sound Center is a
private, non-profit information and communications technology training
collaboration between Edmonds and Shoreline Community Colleges. The Center
is funded by corporate contributions, private endowment and government
grants.
