National Champions Board Meeting and
Institute Training
On January 31, 2007 members of the NGCP National
Champions Board came together in Seattle to provide
guidance to the extension of the NGCP model across
the United States. Leaders from many of the
organizations partnering with NGCP on this effort were

1 and 2, 2007 leadership
teams from new collaborative sites participated in
training about the NGCP model, attended a Northwest
Girls Collaborative Project forum at the Microsoft
campus, and met with their AAUW liaisons for the first
time. AAUW is partnering on this project to provide
support to the new regional collaboratives. AAUW’s
membership base and grassroots leadership
structure provides a broad geographical reach to
provide technical assistance and oversight to the
expanded NGCP. CalGirls co-leaders and liaison are

NGCP Program Directory
The online Program Directory lists organizations
and
programs that focus on motivating girls to pursue
STEM careers. The purpose of the directory is to help
organizations and individuals network, share
resources and collaborate on STEM-related projects
for girls. When you sign up for the Program Directory

available within your organization, program and/or

2007 Global Marathon, For, By and About
Women in Engineering on March 22 - 23
This event is sponsored by the National Engineers
Week Foundation, Verizon Business and Lenovo.
Girls of all ages can hear key engineering and
technology
speakers from a variety of technology and engineering
backgrounds and careers speak in 30-minute
increments about numerous topics.
Astronaut Sally Ride will be joined by Lenovo Sr. Vice
President Fran O'Sullivan to kick off the event with a
live Webcast. During the following 23 hours, speakers
from Boeing, the U.S. Army, Northrop Grumman and
the Society of Women Engineers, among many
others, will share information to increase awareness
of educational and career opportunities for females as
well as dispel myths about women in technical
careers.

Techbridge Summer Training Institute
2007
Are you interested in developing a program to
encourage girls' interest in technology and science?
Would you like to gain girl-tested, hands-on
curriculum and learn strategies for success? We
invite you to participate in the Techbridge Summer
Training Institute in Oakland, CA from August 6-8,
2007. This workshop will teach participants all facets
of starting and successfully running a program in
technology, science and engineering for girls. Since
its founding, Techbridge has served over 1,500 girls in
five school districts through after-school and summer
programs. In 2005, Techbridge was selected by the
National Science Foundation as its "model program
demonstrating significant achievement."

ACCESS Student
Internship
NASA is accepting applications for the Achieving
Competence in Computing, Engineering and Space
Science Internship Project. ACCESS is a 10-week
internship project at NASA centers around the United
States. ACCESS is designed for undergraduate and
graduate students with disabilities who have strong
backgrounds in science and a desire to pursue
technical careers. ACCESS interns will work with
scientists and engineers in an area compatible with
their skills and interests. NASA
provides for assistive technology and other
reasonable worksite accommodations needed by the
student to be a fully productive member of the
technology team. Limited travel funds and
recommendations for finding accessible housing and
transportation will be offered. Applications are
currently being accepted, and placements will be
announced by April 30, 2007.

Federal Resources for Education Excellence
The U.S. Department of Education highlights
Women's History Month on the updated Federal
Resources for Education Excellence (FREE) Web site.
There are over 1500 resources including primary
historical
documents, lesson plans, science visualizations,
math simulations, online challenges, mapping
tools,and more. This easily
accessible information is provided by federal
organizations and agencies such as the Library of
Congress, National Archives, NEH, National Gallery of
Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian, NSF, and
NASA.

WomenTech Portal: Tools for Technology
Educators to Recruit and Retain Women and Girls
This new resource on the IWITTS Web site,
connects educators with research-based articles on
recruiting and retaining women in technology. Find
articles in categories such as bridge courses, spatial
reasoning, and learning styles, introducing educators
to research on the most effective strategies. Future
phases of the
Portal will incorporate best practice case studies,
student recruitment tools, downloadable posters and
marketing materials.
