    WEBCAST
    Save the Date! Wednesday, April 25, 2007, 11 AM – 12 PM, Pacific DST This is the first in a series of Webcasts hosted by NGCP and the Educational Development Center (EDC). In this Webcast you will learn more about the program directory, project updates and resources relating to informal learning and evaluation and assessment. Two weeks before the Webcasts all registrants will receive the URL, a toll-free call-in number, and a technical systems check link.     The online Program Directory lists organizations and programs that focus on motivating girls to pursue STEM careers. The purpose of the directory is to help organizations and individuals network, share resources and collaborate on STEM-related projects for girls. When you sign up for the Program Directory you will enter your program description, resources available within your organization, program and/or organizational needs and contact information.

    Readergirlz Debuts
    A new online book community geared toward "gutsy girls" in life and literature debuted March 1, launching a national reading campaign, "Today's Girls, Tomorrow's History," in honor of National Women's History Month. The online organization connects critically acclaimed young adult writers with young women in a virtual book club, encouraging empowerment through literature and community service. www.readergirlz.com

    Mini-Grant Opportunity
    Washington Afterschool Network (WAN) and School's Out Washington (SOWA) will be awarding up to $2,000 for Innovation Project Mini-Grants for community groups to plan an event focusing specifically on raising awareness among school principals of the key role partnering with afterschool programs plays in helping students achieve school success. Applications deadline 5:00 PM Monday, April 23rd.

    15th Annual Women in Trades Career Fair
    Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. May 3-5, NECA/IBEW Electrical Training Center, Portland OR. The largest, gender-specific trades career fair in the Pacific Northwest. Discover high-paying, highly-skilled careers in the construction, highway, electrical, and mechanical trades through hands-on, highly interactive workshops and exhibits led by tradeswomen.

    Ethics in the Science Classroom
    Professional Development for Secondary Science Teachers. July 16-20, 2007, U.W. Pack Forest Conference Center, Eatonville, WA. The Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR) sponsored workshop is focused on the teaching of ethics and effective strategies for incorporating ethical issues into science classrooms. $400 stipend upon program completion. Free meals and lodging. 4 graduate credits from the U.W. or 40 clock hours WSTA option available. Applications are due April 13, 2007.

    Allied Health Center of Excellence 3rd Annual Conference, April 12, 8:00-5:00, Bellevue Community College. The spring conference is Washington State’s gathering of allied health professionals, administrators, educators, business and industry leaders, and practitioners.

    “What Works: Building a Community that Supports Girls”, Northwest Girls Coalition Conference, May 4, Museum of Flight, Seattle. The goal of this conference is to share best practices in girl-serving programs and provide an opportunity for participants to engage in discussion on issues that are vital to meeting the needs of girls today. NWGC is partnering with Washington State Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee for this event.

    Oregon Pre-Engineering Applied Sciences Initiative (OPAS) goal is to increase the number of work-ready engineers and applied scientists in Oregon through collaboration of education sectors, industry, and government stakeholders. OPAS also provides resources -- papers, articles, Web sites, staff summaries, data, etc. – which are selected from staff research, personal communications, or sent by members of OPAS committees or other interested parties.

    Life Sciences Education and Outreach Brochure
    Created by partners of the Workforce Development Council - Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR) and the Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (PSCTLT), this brochure helps parents, students, counselors, and administrators advocate and encourage participation in life science education and outreach programs across Washington State. Included in the brochure is a link to a database that allows people to search for life science programs by ages served or specialty within life sciences.

These Regional Liaisons help the people involved in the NGCP to make connections – to one another, to resources on gender equity, and to AAUW.

    The Northwest Girls Collaborative Project (NWGCP) brings together organizations in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington that are committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
