Fall Forum at Washington State University
The Northwest Girls Collaborative will
hold a Fall
Forum, "Building Capacity through Collaboration" at
the Washington State University campus in Pullman
on September 29, 2007 from 9:00-12:00.
Plan to network with other girl-serving organizations,
participate in a hands on STEM activity, learn about
opportunities to collaborate, share resources, and
engage in thoughtful discussions with others who
serve girls.

NGCP WEBCAST: Good Assessment = Success:
Developing Assessment Based Outreach
Activities

Are our outreach activities successful? Do they meet
our basic goals? Good assessment helps highlight
what works and what needs improvement, provides
good data for funders, and keeps us from repeating
the same mistakes.
Join Barbara Bogue and Rose Marra, co-founders of
the AWE (Assessing Women and Men in Engineering)
Project, to learn more about developing assessment
based programs, gain access to high quality pre-
college survey instruments (that get at more than
participant satisfaction), and ask questions.
Barbara Bogue is an Associate Professor of
Engineering Science and Mechanics and Women in
Engineering and a consultant for the National Girls
Collaborative Project. Rose M. Marra is an Associate
Professor of Learning Technologies and Co- PI of the
NGCP. Dr. Marra and Dr. Bogue founded and run the
NSF-sponsored AWE Project (AWEonline.org), are
recipients of WEPAN's Betty Vetter Research Award
and have been conducting assessment and
evaluation workshops for over 10 years.

Petticoats and Slide Rules: SWE, A History of
Women Engineers
This unique historical exhibit explores the evolving
role of women in engineering by celebrating women's
technological achievements, personal experiences,
and equal rights struggles. It also relates the story of
the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the first
American national engineering society incorporated
and dedicated to promoting women in engineering
and science. Petticoats and Slide Rules will be on
display at The Museum of Flight until November 4,
2007.

Expanding Your Horizons Conferences
The State of Washington has several Expanding Your
Horizons (EYH) Conferences each year. These events
are designed to nurture girls' interest in science and
math courses and to encourage them to consider
science and math based career options such as
engineering, computer science and physical science.
This Fall there are upcoming conferences in
Centralia, Yakima, Spokane and Olympia.

Zoey's Room
Zoey's Room started off as an interactive technology
club for girls between the ages of 10 - 14 in the state
of Maine. They have grown to include more math,
science and engineering in their interactive online
challenges to girls across the nation.

members across the country are serving as
Regional Liaisons for the National Girls
Collaborative Project. These Regional
Liaisons help the people involved in the NGCP
to make connections - to one another, to
resources on gender equity, and to AAUW.
